Within his 30-odd years of life,
during which most of his time was
    devoted to discriminating bike build-
ing, Joe Alphabet collected as well
as built a passle of functional bike
oddities. One of his past acquisitions
    was a unique four-cylinder Triumph
    with engines integrally mounted side
    by side.
    Alphabet purchased the bike from
a Maryland resident and together with
    Bobby "Hot-shoe" Genise of John's
    Triumph Shop, Woodside, Queens,
proceeded to infinitely tune and set
    up the "bastard" machine.
    The "Two-Timer" was originally
designed and built by Bob Lepan,
    one-time land/speed record holder
    and Triumph specialist. Housing two
    Triumph TR-60 engines coupled to-
gether in a basic Triumph frame, the
    bike though sporting additional mass
and weight is nonetheless very street-
able One engine is mounted on the
right side of the frame in its normal
state, while the left engine is turned
completely around with the head re-
taining its normal position. The ma-
chine was set up in this fashion by
Lepan so that both engine sprockets
are adjacent to each other along the
center line of the bike. Two Reynolds
high tensile chains link to identical
sprockets on a jackshaft located be-
hind the engines and above the
tranny. Setting up the bike in this way
