    Daytona Beach. City of the fast
    track. The one race that every dis-
    tributor wants to win because a win
    here means more, advertising-wise,
    than any other. It means more than
    anything other than winning the
    number one plate the year before.
    Whole ad budgets are built around
    this race; Yamaha has been doing it
    for years with their wins in the
    250cc race. What with winning the
    200 Miler the last two years they’ve
    had more to advertise than ever be-
    fore, and they’ve done it.
    Daytona. A magic name. And
    names' from the past. Resweber,
    Hammer, Hailwood, White, Kretz,
    Reiman, Andres, Leonard, and the
    list could go on. Just about every
    top bike racer at one time or
    another made it down to the
    “Beach” to try their hand at win-
    ning the big one, the 200 Miler.
    In the beginning the race was
    held on the “beach course,” so
    named because it was run on the
    beach. Never let it be said that the
    AMA wasn’t quick on the uptake of
    names. Today, however, the course
    is the international road racing
    course utilizing part of the speed
    bowl and portions of the infield of
    Daytona International Speedway, a
    truly impressive racing plant.
    The course itself is fairly simple
    from a rider’s standpoint. With the
    exception of one corner in the in-
    field all the turns are basically
