This is a set of ROYAL AIR FORCE (Royal Air Force)
parachute harness & maket waist.
This set is made of windproof cotton material which is
tough and highly effective against wind and rain.
It has a crazy pattern with slightly different colors in different parts.
Only a handful of elite members of the
Royal British Air Force's parachute unit,
of which England is proud, were allowed to wear these.
This rare full flying kit was delivered to the military in December 1940,
and the label remains on the back of the collar.
(It is also marked "Made by G.Q. PARACHUTE CO. LTD.").
The overall construction is heavy with a wide variety of buttons,
flaps, and metal parts.
Usually, the parachute harness part
(a detachable collar part that connects the vest to the parachute part) is often missing, but this one came out solid as a set!
Mae West" is a slang term used in ROYAL AIR FORCE to refer to a life vest, although there are various theories. (For example, balloons were called rat traps, searchlights were called pole pies, etc., which seems to be a unique RAF culture.)
The vest is attached and detached by opening and closing the twin zips in the crotch area, and comes with large zipped pockets on either side.
The condition is extremely good and in good condition, with no damage that would be a problem to wear, although there are some tears and some scuffs and stains on the harness back of the hem and back body, and there is a place where one button is missing, there is.
