    Description

This is a beautiful pair of antique Arts & Crafts jeweled and pierced / punched brass lampshades.
Given the high level of quality, I believe they are Newcomb College.
I would estimate they date circa 1900s or 1910s.
They can both bend fairly easily. Therefore the dimensions are slightly off. The top openings vary between 2 and 2 1/4 inches wide (5.1 cm, 5.7 cm). At the bottom, from side to side they measure approximately 6 5/8 inches wide and from corner to corner approximately 7 1/4 inches wide (16.8 cm, 18.4 cm). They each measure approximately 3 1/2 inches tall from top to bottom and approximately 4 inches tall when measuring along the side (8.9 cm, 10.1 cm).
This general style is usually attributed to the Newcomb College School. There are some very interesting stories about it on the internet.
When I saw these, I was expecting to see fringe on them. There is none and I can’t see where it might have gone anyhow. Perhaps this one was made without it. Please use your judgment.
Both of the shades have scattered tarnishing and some light discoloration. One side of one of the shades has some type of white film embedded in the brass. I do not know what caused this though. Otherwise, they are both in very good condition.
Together they weigh a little over 6 ounces (176 g).
