Original Vintage 1945 WWII Lee Enfield Military Sniper Scope No 32 Mk III
This is a fresh find item from a great 80 year old estate collection, see photo in the background found in his collection (not included in sale).
THE SCOPE: The scope looks great with original military finish. Red painted adjustment screw in the bottom. The scope is stamp marked TEL. STG No.32 Mk.III. OS 2039A. A.K. &S No 17532 1945 (with Broad Arrow symbol)
The scope has an intact clean reticle, a thick upright vertical post type reticle with a single thin wire elevation line arrangement. The glass is old and used but well cared for and stored cool, dry and dark. The elements are all tight, no chips cracks or other flaws. The glass is “eye clean” without noticeable cleaning marks, haze, fungus, blooms or black spots. The adjustment drum elevation and windage turrets are have finely knurled brass edges, they retain much of their original black finish with clean intact white indicator numbers. I VERY CAREFULLY without forcing, turned each drum one click each direction. I felt a slight click without grit or grinding. I don’t want to mess with it anymore than that as this has sat a long long time.
THE SCOPE MOUNT: The scope mount is nice looking in original finish. the face of the mount has a matching number stamped to the same rifle as the transit case C35654 It has a partial downward arrow and the number 92. The back side of the mount has consecutive sets of matching numbers deeply stamped into the upper mount rings and the lower mount integral rings. The rear mount has 689B top and 689B bottom, the front mount has 690B top and 690B bottom. The screws in the mount are untouched with small precisely peened points at the slots of the screw. The checkered mounting knobs are precision checkered with nice threads and double washers each. UNDERNEATH the scope mount the original owner engraved his name has engraved his name in small letters, this cannot be seen unless the unmounted scope is turned upside down. The mount displays great and works well.
OUTSIDE THE TRANSIT CASE: The case is all steel and painted green MEASURES 11 7/8" inches long not including the side mounted strap brackets. The height is 4" inches and the width is 2 5/8" inches. STAMP MARKED ON TOP OF THE LID: OS . 906A  CASE STG TEL No8 B&Co (some of these markings are somewhat obscured as they are under the Green paint) The markings RIFLE C35654 are stencil painted on the top of the lid. There are other stencil painted letters barely visible under the paint that I cannot make out. -
INSIDE THE TRANSIT CASE: are old aged paper labels. One the left is an old aged handwritten label: RIFLE - C35654 SCOPE - 17532 MK3 The old aged label on the right is printed and labeled LABEL R339..A. METHOD OF ADJUSTING THE POSITION OF THE GRADUATED SCALE RINGS ON MK2 AND MK3 TELESCOPES. The interior mounting bracket for the scope is intact and working well to retain the scope, it is only threaded on the rear as is correct. I have NOT ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN the case and it shows service wear, use and age. Under close inspection the original owner has neatly engraved his name in small letters UNDERNEATH the case. The case displays great and works well.
THE BROWN LEATHER CARRY STRAP: The strap is of stitch reinforced with all brass fittings. The strap shows service use, wear and age but is very intact and sturdy. The strap feeds through both theses of the lid and along the bottom of the case so it must be loosened a bit for opening.
THE SCOPE CAPS: The caps are rubber with flexible green cord. They are marked LENS GUARD, they are old but I am not sure if they are correct. They fit well and were with the scope when found
