    Description

WW2 British ATS Cape 1944 Dated WAF WLA.
This is a private purchase cape made by Austin Reed of Regent Street in London, of a beautiful serge wool the same color as battle dress. It has an internal belt that buttons closed in the rear, and has two collar hooks as well as three large brass General Service buttons (King’s crown).
The tag is written in pen to a M Moffat, with a date 13th June, 1944.
The service person who owned this collected insignia, and would sew each into the lining of the cape, eventually completely covering the inside with shoulder insignia, division patches; all of various shapes and sizes.
Unfortunately, they’re all long gone, long before the cape came into my possession about twenty years ago. All that remains of this collection is the outlines of these patches in stitching and basting inside.
There’s no damage or staining, however there is evidence of little moth traces, but no holes (see photo.) A clothes shaver would likely erase them.
This is a wonderful piece of British women’s military history.
